Woman school teacher attacked in Tinsukia

By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, May 17 - A woman teacher working in Tinsukia district was attacked by an unidentified miscreant with a sharp weapon while she was returning from school on Thursday afternoon. The incident has again raised questions on the security of woman teachers working in interior areas far from their residences.

According to reports, Monali Hazarika, a TET teacher of Bisfutia LP School under Bordubi PS of Tinsukia district, was attacked by a miscreant with a dagger at Kehang Tea Estate around 2 pm on Thursday while she was walking through the tea garden to board a vehicle to return home after school. She managed to escape, but suffered an injury on her throat while trying to get rid of the attacker.

Later, Hazarika filed an FIR at the Bordubi PS and also informed the headmistress and the school managing committee about the matter.

Hazarika is a resident of Bezbaruah Sarani of Doomdooma town. She is the wife of Manoj Baruah, the Doomdooma correspondent of vernacular daily Niyamiya Barta. She has been working in the school since September 2017.
