GUWAHATI, July 4 - At a time when job creation for youths tops the agenda of the State government, a young candidate was deprived of her rights, despite getting a job in a premiere government school of Guwahati.
Twenty-seven-year-old Dulumoni Baishya was engaged as a computer instructor under the Rajiv Gandhi Literacy Programme in the TC Government Girls� HS and MP School, Guwahati on contract basis from June 1, 2016. The appointment was done through a newspaper advertisement after an interview was conducted.
To her utter surprise however, Baishya received a termination letter dated June 17, 2016. The reasons for termination, mentioned in the letter are not congruent with the criteria laid down in the advertisement, though the school authorities have claimed that everything has been done as per the rules and guidelines.
The termination letter mentions that Baishya was not engaged as a computer technician or instructor by Amtron through their vendors and the matter was brought to the notice of the Inspector of Schools, Kamrup (M). It further adds that the procedure was not done as per the government guidelines, which made a ground for the termination of her job.
�I applied for the post and got selected through a designated committee and fulfilled the criteria laid down in the newspaper advertisement. The clause of engagement with Amtron was mentioned nowhere in the advertisement or even in the appointment letter. I have enough reasons to believe that I am made to suffer due to some lapse on the part of the authorities,� Dulumoni told The Assam Tribune. She has also not received any remuneration for the period she served in the school.
Principal in-charge of the school Dr Chayanika Sharma however, ruled out any possibility of anomalies in the appointment procedure. Government guidelines were followed in both her appointment and termination process. There is a School Management and Development Committee (SMDC), which looks after such matters. The committee however, stands dissolved currently.
Not getting a satisfactory answer from the school authorities after her termination, Dulumoni Baishya has also approached the State Secretary, Department of Education RC Jain and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
