Woman killed in thunderstorm at Golaghat dist

DERGAON, April 10 - Monorama Modi (35) from No. 8 Tila Line of Rangamati Kaiborta Gaon Panchayat in upper Assam�s Golaghat district died on her bed as a big tree fell on the house due to the thunderstorm that lashed the area on Thursday night. The house was completely damaged in the incident.

The husband of the victim received injuries while her son managed to escape the incident.

The Dergaon police and the Khumtai circle officer rushed to the spot and the body was sent for post-mortem.

Khumtai Revenue Circle Officer Jnanjyoti Dutta told The Assam Tribune that the administration gave a relief to the husband and the son. The president of the GP also handed over cash of Rs 5,000 to the next of kin of the deceased.

�We have arranged to pay the ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh from the Deputy Commissioner�s Relief Fund for Natural Calamity,� the circle officer said.
