Woman killed in fresh case of witch-hunting

KOKRAJHAR, April 18 � In a series of merciless killings, as many as four Bodo women have been killed in the name of witch-hunting in Kokrajhar district in the last three days.

According to sources, a group in a fresh case of witch-hunting last night brutally killed a person with sharp weapons and the body was recovered this morning on the bank of Bholjhora river in Charaikhola area under Kokrajhar police station. The victim has been identified as one Sorak Narzary (50) of Samthaibari village.

The sources further revealed that a group of miscreants last night knocked on the door of the victim while she was asleep. The miscreants dragged her out in silence. She has been reportedly missing till the recovery of the body today. A preliminary investigation by a team of police and civil administration official indicated it to be a prima facie case of witch-hunting.

Three other women identified as Madani Boro and Porni Boro of Belguri village and Bipula Narzary of Borsabil village on the night of April 15 and April 16 were systematically killed in the name of �daini killing� in Kokrajhar district.

It may be mentioned here that on the eve of New Year day, 2011 two others were also killed at Serfanguri area in Kokrajhar district inthe name of witch-hunting.

Sensation prevails in many areas of the district following killing of innocent people in the name of witch-hunting.

Meanwhile, people from all walks of life have condemmed this social menace. The ABSU has decided to take out a rally tomorrow in Kokrajhar against this social menace.
