Woman declared foreigner sent to detention camp

JORHAT, June 27 - The Border branch of Jorhat Police on Tuesday arrested a woman declared foreigner by the Foreigners� Tribunal, Jorhat, a few years ago, and lodged her at the detention camp at the Central Jail, Jorhat.A police source stated that the woman identified as Somiran Bibi (40), daughter of Lukman Ali of Kortimari village under Gossaigaon Police Station in Kokrajhar district, was declared a foreigner after she remained absent in the Tribunal several times.

The source said that Bibi, who has been reportedly married to Israel Khan, originally a resident of Bihar and presently living here, had a case registered against her at the FT, Jorhat in 2006 by the Border branch of Police here.Bibi, however, became untraceable after the case was lodged at the FT. On Tuesday, a Border Police team found Bibi living along with her husband at a rented house in the Phansi Ali locality here. The source said that after confirming her identity, Bibi was taken to the detention camp by the police.
