Woes of State�s college libraries discussed

GUWAHATI, Nov 18 - The problems and challenges faced by the college libraries of Assam were discussed thoroughly during the 5th annual conference of the Assam College Librarians� Association (ACLA) held at Dakshin Kamrup Girls College, Mirza on Saturday.

The programme started with hoisting of the flags of ACLA and D K Girls College by Madhab Bora, president of ACLA and Dr Gajendra Adhikary, Principal of the host college respectively. An executive meeting of ACLA was also held before start of the session.

The ACLA members forwarded their suggestions on how to further strengthen the college libraries. Dr Prasanta Kumar Deka spoke on the activities taken up by the association since October 2018. Dr Deka appreciated the work of ICT Cell, ACLA under its convener Dr Birender Pal.

The open session of the event was attended by Biswajit Bhuyan, president, Assam College Teachers� Association (ACTA); Prasanta Rajguru, Editor of Amar Asom; Dr Adhikary and others.

Rajguru spoke on the importance of libraries for students and citizens. Biswajit Bhuyan spoke on the Draft National Education Policy-2019 and its impact on higher educational institutions.

More than 80 college librarians from different corners of the State took part in the event.
