Withdrawal of ASEB incentive resented

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 5 Voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has resented the discontinuation of the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) provision of incentive to the consumers who are in the habit of clearing their tariff regularly.

A delegation of the voluntary organisation was told by the ASEB Chairman yesterday that the provision was discontinued by the Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC), said the voluntary organisation in a statement here today.

The ASEB Chairman also admitted that there might be some cases of power theft. But the board is taking firm steps to check such cases. He also agreed with the SGBG delegation members that the technical persons should be engaged in preparing the schemes.

The delegation pointed out to the allegation that many people who deposit surety money with the board for short-term consumption, do no get their left over amounts returned. This gives rise to the doubt that there is some sort of corruption in this respect, the delegation pointed out.

It also alleged that the ASEB has not been paying interest to the common consumers on the load security amounts they deposit with the board. The board Chairman took the matter seriously and directed the board officials to concentrate on the matter, said the SGBG in its statement.
