With one more death, Manipur COVID-19 toll reaches 13

IMPHAL, Aug 13 - With the death of a 37-year-old man, the death toll due to COVID-19 in Manipur rose to 13 today. The deceased also had hypertension.

In a press release, the COVID-19 common control room here stated that the man hailed from Imphal West district. The first COVID-19 death in Manipur was reported on July 29.

In the past 24 hours, 91 civilians and 39 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel were confirmed COVID-19 positive, added the release.

The positive cases were detected in the VRDL of the RIMS and other testing centres, it said. The infected persons are from Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur and Senapati districts.

Only four (from Churachandpur) among the civilians are returnees from other States and the rest 87 are local residents without any significant travel history, the release added.

In the past 24 hours, 64 persons were also discharged from the RIMS and four other COVID care centres.

The total number of positive cases in Manipur stands at 4,112, including 935 CAPF personnel, while the cumulative number of discharged cases is 2,295. The number of active cases is 1,804 including 763 CAPF personnel. The recovery rate in the State is 55.81 percent.

As of Thursday, 3,30,003 persons were screened at various entry points of the State, while 1,07,469 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres, official sources said.
