Wipro denies payment scam in NRC work

GUWAHATI, Aug 30 - Reacting to a news item about an alleged scam in the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) updating process published in The Assam Tribune today, Wipro Limited said that in 2014, it was appointed as the System Integrator to update the NRC in Assam after a rigorous tender process and the project was commissioned by the Registrar General of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and is being monitored by the Supreme Court of India.

�Wipro entered into a partnership with a local company to train and deploy data entry operators across the State to update the NRC. Separately, Wipro has also developed the software and IT infrastructure for this project. Despite delayed receipt of payments, Wipro and its partner continue to pay salaries to the data entry operators to ensure that operations remain uninterrupted and staff are not impacted,� it said in a statement.

It added that Wipro had always provided services in accordance with the terms of its contract with NRC and the same was being monitored by the concerned authorities.
