JORHAT, Nov 19 - With an objective to encourage discarding of plastic material and also to maintain cleanliness and promote greenery, MyGovAssam under the CMO in collaboration with the Majuli district administration this time organised a competition among the Raas festival organisers on celebrating the annual event in an environment-friendly manner.
It may be mentioned here that MyGovAssam is a platform of the Government to engage with the citizens.
A Majuli river island district administration official told this newspaper that the three-day Raas festival held from November 11 had organised the competition under the banner: �Clean, Green, Plastic-free Raas Festival Competition�.
In a function organised at the Majuli Deputy Commissioner�s office chamber on November 14, representatives of three winning Raas organising committees were given away the first, second and third prizes by Majuli Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi, the official informed.
The winning Raas festival organisers were Sanmilita Silpi Samaj of Kamalabari (first), Uttar Kamalabari Satra (second) and Bongshigopal Natya Mandir (third) respectively.
The winning committees were presented a certificate from MyGovAssam and a sapling each of a valuable species of tree.
During the three-day Raas festival, judges assigned by the district administration visited all the 58 Raas venues and assessed several aspects like cleanliness, steps taken to promote abstaining from use of plastic material and push for biodegradable material.
It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on November 11 inaugurated the three-day Raas festival in the Brahmaputra river island at a function held at Garamur Mini Stadium.
Unofficially, Raas continues for about a week in the river island under normal circumstances.
