By Correspondent

SILCHAR, March 27 In an exciting encounter, Bhawanipore FC beat United Sikkim 1-0 here today in the 2nd Division I-League tournament played at the SM Dev stadium.

Coach Julllian Fontanas boys began the match against United Sikkim from where they left two nights ago in their drawn match against the Hindustan FC. Despite its worries about the role of a stopper, the side played attacking game from the word go. Baichung Bhutias team however will have to blame themselves for playing some sloppy football as their defence looked clueless much like their forward.

Pradeep Mohanraj carried the ball to the post to score the first goal for Bhawanipore in the 25th minute. Sikkim skipper Mayal Dok Lepcha had to leave the field owing to a muscle pull. The score line till the first half read 1-0.

However, Bhawanipore FC could have increased the number of goals had they bagged the chances that came their way in the second half. United Sikkim was found wanting with their defence as they allowed too many opportunities to Bhawanipore Oluwanwunmi Somide missed a sitter in front of the box in the 67th minute. Bhawanipore now has 7 points after three matches.

In another match, Hindustan FC defeated Kalighat Milan Sangha 2-0 to register its first win in the tournament. OO Sola scored the first goal in the 62nd minute to spoil hopes of Kalighat Milan Sangha which was playing for a draw. And 11 minutes later, Mayel Lepcha fooled the Kalighat goal keeper and scored the second goal for his side. Hindustan FC has 3 points after two matches.
