Williamnagar goes to bypoll today

TURA, April 26 - Residents of Williamnagar will go to vote tomorrow to choose a new leader to represent them for the next five years in Meghalaya Assembly.

Voting will be held from 7 am to 4 pm. Counting for the seat will take place on May 1 with 9 candidates in the fray.

The number of voters in the constituency stands at 32,345. �We would like to appeal to the voters in Williamnagar to come and exercise their franchise en-masse. The opportunity to choose your leader comes once in five years and should be used fully,� said DC of East Garo Hills, Ram Kumar.

Kumar added that poll preparations have been completed and all polling parties dispatched to their stations for the conduct of free and fair polls.

The constituency has 58 polling booths with Balsrigittim in Williamnagar having the highest number of 1,273 voters while the Naregre (newly created polling booth) is the smallest with only 83 voters.

The 2013 elections saw a voter turnout of 79.24 per cent.
