By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 7 - Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain on Thursday assured that he will promote railway projects in the North East and appealed for cooperation from all party workers and public.

Addressing party workers at a felicitation function at the BJP head office at Hengrabari here, Gohain, who landed in Guwahati today from Delhi, said that it is a huge responsibility and he will do his best to meet the aspirations of people.

It will be very unfortunate for me if I fail to live up to the expectations of the people after taking up such a big responsibility, said Gohain, while calling upon everyone to be patient as it will take time to cope with the challenges of the current economic situation.

He also asserted that the interests of the State would be protected and issues crucial for improving the railway connectivity, including dual expansion of tracks, would be dealt with.

Party members extended a warm welcome to Gohain, who was inducted into the ministry during the recent expansion made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Rajen Gohain is the first individual from the State to be entrusted with such a big responsibility and observed that there would be myriad challenges for the new Union Minister ahead. Sarma also extended his gratefulness to Prime Minister Modi for entrusting Gohain with the Railway Ministry.

The function was attended by many senior leaders of the party, including State president in charge Shantanu Bharali.
