GUWAHATI, Dec 26 - Inching closer to the BJP, suspended Congress leader Ajanta Neog met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday evening at the PWD inspection bungalow at Amingaon where the senior BJP leader is staying overnight during his three-day visit to the Northeast. Neog, a former minister, was expelled by the Congress yesterday for anti-party activities. She has also quit as an MLA.
Neog arrived at the guest house along with State minister Pijush Hazarika. She met Amit Shah, but she did not join the party today. She will be joining the party later with her supporters, BJP sources said when asked about the meeting. Neog termed the meeting as a courtesy call. She confirmed that she will join the party and said she would speak in details after that. Rajdeep Goala, who was also expelled by the Congress in October, and independent MLA from Jonai Bhubon Pegu also met Shah. Both are also likely to join the saffron party.
Shah held a series of meetings at the PWD guest house during the day. The BJP core committee meeting was also held later in the evening which decided to continue with the alliance with the AGP for the coming polls in Assam.
Before flying to Manipur, Shah will visit Kamakhya Temple in the morning tomorrow.
