Will be firm on communal violence: Karimganj DC

BADARPUR, Aug 14 - A citizens� meet held at the Karimganj DC's conference hall recently demanded the arrest and meting out of exemplary punishment to the persons accused of fanning communal passions in the town recently.

Addressing the meet, Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar Deka said that the Karimganj district administration will clamp down on communal violence with a strong hand for maintaining peace, discipline and harmony in the district. He said that as Section 144 CrPC has been imposed, so all public assemblies, meetings, processions, road blockades, etc., have been banned. Besides, tea and paan shops must close down within fixed hours. Deka also informed that those involved in the recent incident will be dealt with sternly. He also agreed with all for forming peace committees in the district, as per a resolution taken in the meeting.

The Karimganj SP, Pradeep Ranjan Kar informed that the police is drawing up a list of the accused persons and after proper investigation, they will be arrested. He also informed that police patrolling has been increased in the town and other places of the district.

BJP leader and a former MLA, Mission Ranjan Das demanded a proper investigation of the communal incident of last Sunday. Congress leader Satu Roy said that the situation should be tackled strictly by the police. It may be noted here that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sanowal has expressed his deep concern over the incident. Through a video conference, he gave strict instructions to the Karimganj district and police administrations to deal with the situation with an iron hand, and to take necessary steps against the accused persons.
