Will ask BRO authorities to build Balemu bridge: Khandu

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, Jan 11 - Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday told the State Assembly that he would ask the Border Roads Organization (BRO) authorities to immediately construct the Balemu bridge in West Kameng district.

The under-construction steel suspension bridge on the Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga (OKSRT) Road near Balemu under the Kalaktang Assembly Constituency in West Kameng district had collapsed on November 26 last year, in which four workers were injured. The bridge was being built by the Border Road Task Force (BRTF).

The Chief Minister informed the House that he had personally talked to the BRO authorities who informed him that they are investigating the matter and accordingly, the fault would be rectified after unearthing the cause of the bridge collapse.

Earlier, bringing the matter during the Zero Hour, the JD(U) MLA from Kalaktang, Dorjee Wangdi Kharma, said that despite his invitation to the BRO authorities to attend a meeting over the issue, the BRO officials did not turn up. The West Kameng Deputy Commissioner and the District Development Committee had also invited the BRO officials to a meeting.

They did not feel the urgency to mend things and understand the suffering of people who commute through the all-important OKSRT Road, he complained.

Meanwhile, Khandu assured that he would take up the matter with the BRO authorities for early construction of the vital bridge and ask them to respond to invitations from elected representative and district authorities.
