Wildfire in Dzukou valley spreading

KOHIMA, March 14 � The fire in Dzukou Valley which started last Wednesday is still spreading and the inferno is heading towards Mount Japfu and Mount Tempu ranges.

An IAF chopper dropped water to douse the fire today. Minister for Forest, Environment & Ecology Dr Nicky Kire visited the base camp today at Viswema to take stock of the situation.

Yesterday, Chief Minister TR Zeliang made an aerial survey of the wild fire. He expressed concern over the magnitude of the devastation already caused by the raging fire and urged the Home department and State Disaster Management Authority to douse the fire.

Zeliang expressed concern over frequent occurrences of wild fire in the picturesque Dzukuo Valley of late and felt that there is an urgent need for creating public awareness to prevent occurrence of such wildfire in future and protect natural heritage.
