Wild elephants kill minor girl in Baksa village

BARPETA, April 6 - Wild elephants from the Manas National Park-cum-Tiger Project created terror at Kahibari Urang Chupa near Salbari in Baksa district last night killing a minor girl and injuring her sister.

The wild tuskers entered the village around 11 last night and trampled the house of one Rimish Minj. The tuskers targeted his two daughters and killed Binita (10), while her sister Jinita has fractured one leg.

The All Adivasi Students� Association of Assam Bansbari Anchalik Committee has demanded adequate compensation to the family of the victim and proper security to the people of the periphery villages of Manas National Park-cum-Tiger Project. The student leaders submitted a memorandum to the Bansbari Range Officer of Manas National Park to this effect this morning.
