GORESWAR, March 15 - A wild elephant killed one Mallika Pathok (4), daughter of Ranjit Pathok at No.1 Dongergaon village in Tamulpur civil sub-division of Baksa district on Wednesday night.

Sources said that a wild elephant came down from the Bhutan hill to the area in search of fodder and water Wednesday night and entered the village at No. 1 Dongergaon under Tamulpur civil sub-division in Baksa district.

The elephant damaged many houses in search of paddy in the village and later entered the house of Ranjit Pathok and subsequently destroyed two more houses. Knowing the danger ahead, the family tried to save their lives by running away from the house while the wild elephant known as Laden snatched Mallika with its trunk from the lap of Lata Pahok, who tried to flee with her child. The elephant brought the child from its mother and trampled it to death. The pregnant mother Lata Pathok was also injured by the jumbos.
