ITANAGAR, July 4 - The Arunachal Pradesh Government today announced a week-long lockdown in the Itanagar Capital Complex from July 6 to 12 to contain the spread of COVID-19.
�The lockdown will be clamped at 5 am on July 6 and will remain in force till 5 pm on July 12,� Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar told media persons at the State Civil Secretariat here this morning.
The decision to impose the lockdown was taken in the wake of a sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases in the State capital region.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and the Council of Ministers observed that in the last one week, COVID-19 cases have increased rapidly in the capital complex, and hence the decision to impose the lockdown was taken.
As on Friday, the Itanagar Capital Complex reported 89 coronavirus cases. There are 81 active cases and eight recovered cases.
�Itanagar Capital Complex will be under lockdown from 6th July (Monday) till 12th July (Sunday). Detailed Guidelines and SOP for compliance will be issued shortly,� Chief Minister Pema Khandu tweeted.
The Chief Secretary stated that details of the activities to be exempted from the purview of the lockdown, would be announced tomorrow. �If there is a need for containment of activities in some areas, the administration will identify and act accordingly,� he said.
Kumar also appealed to the people to follow social distancing, wear face masks and wash hands regularly to keep the virus at bay.
The State has so far recorded 252 COVID-19 cases, including 176 active cases, 75 discharged cases and one casualty, according to a bulletin issued by the State Health Department last night.
