Week-long film festival concludes at RGU

RONO HILLS (ARUNACHAL PRADESH), Oct 3 - A week-long film festival on the life of Mahatma Gandhi concluded at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here on Friday coinciding with the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, stated a press release issued today. The festival was organised in the blended mode in which the opening and the closing functions were done offline.

The closing function witnessed the screening of films in the open air theatre near the �Wall of Heroes� at RGU which was made especially for the programme in a bid to remember the services rendered by the freedom fighters and our valiant soldiers who guard our borders and make supreme sacrifice at the call of duty, the release said. Prof Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor of the university, attending as the chief guest of the programme emphasised that Gandhian philosophy is not only practised in our daily lives but also incorporated in policy making of the country.

He added that the leave travelling concession given to government employees has the vision of Mahatma in which fellow countrymen take the opportunity to travel to all corners of the nation and learn how we all live together in peace and harmony.

�It also gave one to understand how developmental activities are carried out and how to learn from it,� he added.

Prof Amitava Mitra, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university, while sharing his thoughts about the festival, shared his personal anecdote of how as a young student in JNU, he got an opportunity to become a part of the film on Gandhi.

He shared with the gathering that he was fortunate enough to play a pivotal part both in centenary and 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the Father of the Nation.

Dr NT Rikam, Registrar of the university, in his speech stressed on the importance of the programme and how the life of Mahatma has become a way of our life and our philosophy.

He added that relatively the older generations have some fair idea of the teachings of the Mahatma and sounded that it is a challenge to educate the younger generations in these crucial aspects. He also thanked the Films Division of India for supporting with many rare films on the life of Gandhi with which the programme could be successfully conducted taking the teachings of the Mahatma to the viewers.
