JORHAT, July 9 - A national webinar series on �Immuno-nutrition, wellness management and livelihood change� was held at Assam Agricultural University at Borbheta here from July 3 to 5.
An AAU press note stated that the webinar series was organised under the aegis of the All India Coordinated Research Project-Women in Agriculture (AICRP-WIA, Jorhat Centre, AAU) in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Institute of Women in Agriculture.
Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary in the Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director-General, ICAR, New Delhi, delivered the keynote address, while 11 distinguished speakers from India and abroad delivered lectures on relevant topics.
Mohapatra emphasised the importance of practising rich Indian culture and tradition including yoga and meditation for health management. He highlighted that for the wellness of individuals and to stay fit and healthy, science-based methodologies should be applied. Stating that food matters a lot in context of wellness, Mohapatra called for having food education as a core component of all education.
The webinar series started with a brief introduction by Dr Mamoni Das, organising secretary and unit coordinator of AICRP-WIA, Jorhat centre, AAU, who stated that the unprecedented pandemic situation due to COVID-19 had crippled the world and was taxing the entire system of daily life thereby bringing drastic affects to physical well-being, mental health, livelihood, income, mobility of people.
�The need of the hour is to think and act differently and there is an urgent need for adopting a culture of wellness to support the well-being of people. The aim of organising the webinar is to generate awareness on positive management of physical, mental, emotional and social well-being,� she observed.
AAU Vice Chancellor (in-charge) Dr Ashok Bhattacharyya, while delivering the welcome address, highlighted the significance of organising webinars during the critical time and stressed upon the need for physical well-being of people by maintaining proper diet to support the immune system and wellness management.
Around 3,000 participants registered for the webinars, which included academicians, faculties, researchers, policy-makers, health workers and students from abroad as well as from different institutes across India.
