GUWAHATI, Dec 15 - The Sports Authority of Assam conducted a webinar today on �Importance of Sports Science in Sports�.
The speakers on the occasion were Dr Laxmanan S, Managing Director, NHM; Dr Pralay Mazumdar, Head of Sports Science, Sports Authority of Assam; Partha Pratim Mazumdar, Head Coach, SAI Glenmark National Centre of Excellence and Dr Mantu Boro, Head, Physical Education, Dibrugarh University. Nipon Das, athletics coach was the moderator of the webinar.
The speakers opined that sports science helps reduce the risk of injury and increase the overall performance of an athlete. It should be available at the grassroots level across the State which will also contribute to identification of talent and the selection process. Dr Pralay Mazumdar and Partha Pratim Mazumdar discussed the various aspects of sports science and how coaches can use these for improving performance.
In his address, Onkar Kedia, Director General, Sports Authority of Assam, said, sports has become very competitive nowadays and it is sports science which gives athletes the edge, stated a release.
