Webinar on building coalition against tobacco

GUWAHATI, Aug 28 - Consumers� Legal Protection Forum, Assam (CLPF) in association with Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK) and Consumer Voice, New Delhi today organised a webinar on building a coalition for a tobacco-free Assam.

The webinar was attended by more than 60 leading civil society organisations from 33 districts of the State along with the participants from other States of the country, a press release stated.

The inaugural speech was delivered by Dr Amal Chandra Kataki, Director of B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati on �the status of tobacco control in Assam, and how the civil society should work to control the prevalence�.

Among other speakers, Dr Arunduti Deka, Assam State nodal officer, NTCP spoke on �tobacco control in Assam�, Narendar Kumar, principal consultant (State policy), CTFK on �civil society and the Government�s collective efforts for a tobacco-free Assam�, Ashim Sanyal, COO, Consumer Voice on �initiatives for tobacco control in Assam� and Dr Kunal Oswal, Public Health - Lead Cancer Care Program, Tata Trust on �other initiatives for tobacco control and cancer care in the State�.

The speakers expressed concern over the increasing number of tobacco users, basically among the youth in the State. The participants from different districts agreed to work together to make Assam a tobacco-free State.
