Weather monitoring station set up in Margherita school

DOOMDOOMA, June 27 - In a bid to provide students the knowledge of the weather in their locality, a Weather Monitoring Station (WMS) was set up at N-Them ME School in Margherita subdivision of Tinsukia district. This is probably the first weather monitoring station of its kind to be set up in a government primary school in the State.

Through this station, students will get the basic knowledge of the atmosphere and the weather. At present, a barometer, a hygrometer, a thermometer, an anemometer, wind sock, and rain gauge have been included in the station. A special unit of students of the school has been formed for daily data collection.

The WMS was formally inaugurated on Tuesday by Binty Sharma, District Elementary Education Officer of Tinsukia. The inaugural programme was chaired by the school managing committee president Prashanta Mohan. The programme was attended by District Programme Officer Deepak Borgohain, Margherita�s Block Elementary Education Officer Tankeswar Gogoi and Margherita Subdivision Prathamik Shikshak Sanmilani president Bharat Neog.

Chinmoy Chetia, headmaster cum science teacher of the school, told this correspondent that more apparatus would be added to the WMS in future.
