We ought to learn from RSS how to maintain mass contact: Gogoi

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 17 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the Congress party ought to learn from the RSS as far as maintaining contact with the masses is concerned.

Addressing the media here, Gogoi said that while his party is against the ideology of the RSS, it can nevertheless try to follow the Sanghs cadre-based model.

We can learn from the RSS about how they maintain contact with the masses. We will visit each home and enquire about peoples problems and see if the facilities promised by the BJP government have actually been delivered or not. We will have to spend more time in the villages, he said.

Gogoi said that the Congress party was the pioneer in starting mass contact with its frontal bodies like the Seva Dal, but added that these have become inactive over the years. He also admitted that the Congress has lost contact with the masses in recent times and that was the reason for the partys poor show in the Lok Sabha polls.

He said the Congress has now set its sight on winning at least 80 seats in the 2021 Assembly polls.

We have set the Mission 80 target for 2021 and we will start work from now to achieve this target. This is a very serious challenge but we are ready to take it, said the senior leader.

He added that the main strategy for the Congress would be to re-establish contact with people and strengthen the booth committees.

Gogoi said that he being the seniormost party leader in Assam, would lead from the front, but added that he has no wish to become the chief ministerial candidate or president of the State Congress.
