We are committed to providing security to people: CM

Mangaldai July 29 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has reiterated that his government is committed to providing security to the people of Assam irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

�We will create a peaceful ambience from Barak to Brahmaputra Valley where people can live freely without any fear,� the Chief Minister said while addressing a women�s rally at Narikali in Darrang district yesterday.

Dispelling fears being germinated from draft publication of NRC, Sonowal said that if any genuine Indian citizen�s name is left out from the draft NRC, he or she should not be worried as they will get enough scope to get their names enrolled through well laid-out procedures prescribed by the Supreme Court.

In this regard, he also appealed to the people not to pay heed to any rumours in connection with the draft NRC.

Earlier, the Chief Minister dwelt at length on the objectives of the Kanaklata Women Empowerment scheme launched by the State Government. Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharyya while speaking on the occasion urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the revolving funds.

Participating in the programme, Minister of State for Panchayat and Rural Development, Naba Kummar Doley called upon the women folk to utilize the scheme to bring about their empowerment. MP Ramen Deka and MLA Satyabrata Kalita also spoke on the occasion.

MLA Binanda Saikia, Maheswar Boro, Narayan Deka, Rituporno Baruah, DC Darrang Ashok Barman, Chairperson Assam State Social Welfare Board Krishna Das and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
