Waterlogging hits several areas

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, May 7 A spell of rain in the wee hours today left many places of the city reeling under waterlogging, thus exposing the recent drain-cleaning exercise by the GMC.

Among the worst-affected areas were the RG Baruah Road, Rajgarh Road, especially the lanes and by-lanes such as Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, etc.

While the occasional rains since the past few days have brought in some much-needed respite for the harrowed citizens enduring the scorching sun, the rain-induced waterlogging has also turned out to be a bane for a large segment of the citizens.

The situation in Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar is so bad that one can ply boats on the road. If a single burst of shower can cause such severe inundation, God knows what will befall the people when the full-scale monsoons will hit the city, a local resident said.

School-goers were the worst-affected by todays deluge, as they had to walk on inundated roads and streets to reach their schools.
