Water supply facilities in Silchar

KARIMGANJ, Feb 20 � Altogether, 82 habitations were covered by water supply facilities of Silchar PHE division-I during 2009.

Talking to this correspondent, Gautam Paul, executive engineer of Silchar PHE division-I disclosed that a total of 94,467 people have been fully covered with water supply facilities, of which SC and ST people are 31,686 and 621 respectively.

Silchar PHE division-I already completed the execution work of 41 WSS during last year and the total number of schemes expected to be completed upto March is 18. 34 old piped water supply scheme have been rejuvenated during the period. The number of spot sources installed is 15. Paul informed that his division was catering to the water supply needs of Silchar, Katigorah, Kalain, Borkhola, Salchapra and Tapang development blocks.

The target for testing of water sources at village level and elimination of contamination if found at the source is 3,683, whereas till date the division has achieved only 1,705. The rest will be achieved within March next.

Since inception of this division, the Assam Government has sanctioned 53 piped WS schemes for tea garden areas.
