GUWAHATI, June 14 - With the advent of the South West Monsoon, the rivers of the State are rising. The Brahmaputra is rising at Dibrugarh, Neamatighat, Tezpur and Goalpara, while its north bank tributaries Jia Bharali and Puthimari are flowing above danger levels at NT Road Crossing and NH Road Crossing respectively. The Katakhal in the Barak valley is also flowing above danger level at Matizuri. All these rivers are maintaining a rising trend.
The Brahmaputra�s north bank tributaries � Ranganadi, Subansiri and Beki and its south bank tributaries � Dikhow, Desang, Dhansiri (South) and Kopili are rising. In the Barak valley, the Barak and Kushiyara are also rising.
The floods caused by the swelling rivers have affected the districts of Lakhimpur, Darrang and Hailakandi, while rain-induced waterlogging and landslides have affected Kamrup (Metro) district.
Two revenue circles of Lakhimpur district � Now-boicha and North Lakhimpur, one revenue circle in Darrang district � Mangaldai and two revenue circles of Hailakandi district � Lala and Katlichera are affected by the floods. In Kamrup (Metro) district, Guwahati, Dispur, Azara, Chandrapur and Sonapur revenue circles have been affected by waterlogging and landslide, an official flood bulletin here this evening stated.
An embankment was overtopped by floodwaters in two locations at Udmari village in Darrang district, while two breaches have occurred in the embankment of the Katakhal river at Rajyeswarpur Part I under Lala revenue circle of Hailakandi district.
Rising waters of Dhales-wari and Katakhal rivers have submerged portions of the road from Sunacherra to Rupacherra under Katli-cherra revenue circle and the PWD road at Rajyeswarpur Part I leading to halt in traffic, the flood bulletin said, adding, a 25-metre stretch of the Panchayat bund near Doha-para under Matia revenue circle in Goalpara district was breached yesterday.
