Waste disposal rules being violated at quarantine centres

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, June 7 - Even though the Central Pollution Control Board had issued guidelines on the handling of waste generated at the quarantine centres, several such centres in the city are continuously violating the waste disposal norms.

On Sunday, two youths were caught with used water bottles in the quarantine centres while they were coming to the Athgaon Railway Gate No.4.

The duo was carrying empty plastic bottles in their bags. When we asked them about it, they said they had been sent to sell off these bottles. There were more than 200 such bottles with them, a local resident of Athgaon area said.

We informed the police immediately. But the police let them go, he alleged. We urge the district administration to take strict action against it.

It is pertinent to mention here that on May 30, too, waste generated at the quarantine centres were dumped near the Athgaon Railway Gate No.4.
