GUWAHATI, June 20 - The Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha has warned that the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) would ultimately sound the death knell for the indigenous peoples of the State.

In a statement here, the Mahasangha alleged that the final updated copy of the NRC would contain the names of around 70 lakh illegal Bangladeshi migrants who entered Assam between 1951 and 1971.

Mahasangha, therefore, demanded that the names of only the indigenous peoples of the State be included in the updated NRC, or else, it warned, the size of the indigenous peoples would be reduced to only 15 per cent in the States total population.
