War against plastic, consumerism trends at Kali Puja pandals

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 27 - A glance into the pandal of Zero Boys Group in Premtola area of a busy Silchar street shall bring the revelers closer to the pragmatic picture of the web of consumerism and the trap of the financial burden.

It is our 41st year of Kali Puja celebrations and we thought of showcasing the demonic urge of a consumer-oriented market that is creeping into the psyche and caging our minds. Here, Goddess Kali is shown to hold a credit card symbolising the beheaded asur, said Sujit Paul, president of Zero Boys Group. He added to say by exhibiting the practical scenario, they wish to send the message of controlling the constant urge of material benefits which enslaves the human mind.

On the other hand, youngsters of Pragati Palli puja committee echoed the global call to shun use of plastic by preparing a paper-made idol of Goddess Kali. Artists Joydip Pal and Prosenjit Pal made the idol using newspapers and they portrayed plastic as the modern day Goliath slain by the Goddess.
