Walkathon to highlight ill effects of plastic

GUWAHATI, June 2 - As part of World Environment Day celebration, Pollution Control Board, Assam and Guwahati Refinery today organised a walkathon from the Board�s office to the refinery.

The walkathon was flagged off at 7.20 am by PCBA Member Secretary BK Baruah and refinery�s GM MM Baishya. The objective of the walkathon was to raise awareness among the common masses regarding the negative impacts of plastic waste in the environment.

Around 350 individuals participated in the event.

An awareness meeting was also held at the sports complex of the refinery later. Noted scientist Dr Dinesh Chandra Goswami gave the keynote address at the meeting. He spoke on different issues of single-use-plastic pollution. A specially designed leaflet on plastic pollution in Assamese prepared by the Board was also distributed at the meet.
