Walkathon marks beginning of Ayushman Bharat Pakhwara

GUWAHATI, Sept 15 - The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) organised a walkathon/prabhat feri today to mark the beginning of the �Ayushman Bharat Pakhwara� celebrations which are being observed from September 15 to 30.

The walkathon began at 6:30 am and continued up to 7:30 am. It started from the Nehru Stadium and ended at Dighalipukhuri.

The walkathon was flagged off by Alok Kumar, Chief Secretary, Govt of Assam, Samir Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department, Govt of Assam, Dr Praveen Gedam, Deputy CEO, National Health Authority, Govt of India and Monalisa Goswami, Commissioner and Secretary, Health & Family Welfare department, Govt of Assam and CEO, Atal Amrit Abhiyan Society, Assam.

They also participated in the walk along with several other personalities from the film and sports fraternities to spread the message of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

PMJAY covers 27 lakh poor and vulnerable families (1.35 crore individuals approximately) in Assam as identified by the SECC Census 2011 data.

The Scheme under PMJAY provides comprehensive coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care treatment.

At the national level, a National Health Authority (NHA) has been constituted to administer the scheme and in Assam, the Atal Amrit Abhiyan Society has been notified as the state health agency for the scheme.

The scheme is completely cashless at the point of delivery and the benefits of the scheme are portable across the country, and a beneficiary covered under the scheme will be allowed to take cashless benefits from any public/private empanelled hospitals across the country.

Till date, the State has signed MoUs with 179 hospitals for empanelment under the scheme and in the third phase of expansion, another 128 government hospitals have been empanelled.
