Wage Board JUA submits memo to Governor

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 26 Journalists Union of Assam (JUA) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Governor JB Patnaik demanding extension of the term of the Wage Board for journalists and other newspaper employees headed by Justice GR Majithia till December next.

In a release issued to the press, the JUA expressed its opposition to any move to constitute a tribunal replacing the Wage Board by the Union Government. Such a move will further delay the process of fixation of wages of the journalists and other newspaper employees and deprive them of fair wages, said the release.

The JUA also told the Governor that the award of the previous Wage Board was not implemented in Assam by the Government. It expressed resentment at the nonfunctioning of the statutory tripartite committee to monitor implementation of the wage board.
