DHUBRI, Jan 24 - With an aim to strengthen the Indo-Bangladesh relationship and to promote border tourism in Assam, a Wagah border-like structure will soon be constructed in the border areas of Sonahat in Dhubri district.
The project will be undertaken by the Border Protection and Development Department (BPDD). District administration officials said the department has already allotted Rs 5 crore for the project.
Like at the Wagah border, in this international border too, a flag-lowering ceremony will be performed daily by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along with other demonstrations by the Army and various cultural groups.
Along with an auditorium for daily shows, there will be a museum and restaurants as well.
As per plans, various cultural groups will perform daily, to showcase the music and dance forms of India, particularly from this part of the country, said BSF officials.
Security forces will also showcase the strength and power of India, an official said.
Dhubri ADC Pallav Mazumder said the main reason behind chosing Sonahat was because there is already an International Trade Centre in the area, due to which road communication is better than other border areas of the district. There is also a BSF outpost in the area.
The PWD has made an estimate and plans for the structure. Administrative officials said the work will start formally after a visit by officials from the BPDD to finalise the site.
