By Correspondent

SILCHAR, April 11 Following the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the Cachar district administration will carry out a special drive on authentication and purification of electoral rolls across the district tomorrow.

Briefing the media on this, Additional Deputy Commissioner AR Shiekh on Friday said that as a part of the National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication programme ( NERPAP) 2015, this special drive is meant to make the people aware of the importance of voluntary disclosure of multiple entries in the voters list and disposal of such cases within 15 days by the concerned Electoral Registration officers, correction of errors or any relevant entries pertaining to electors with a fortnight on production of cogent documentary evidence etc. He informed that the NERPAP has been in effective in the district since March 3 this year and will continue till August 7. The Booth Level Officers, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers have been trained to conduct the exercise, he added.

Elaborating further, Simanta Kumar Das, the District Election Officer informed that electors can submit the Form 7 disclosing multiple entries in the voters list during the drive or at any time during office hours at the District Election Office. Also, the electors can submit Form 8 for any correction of data, he said. However, Das underscored the fact that linking and authentication of EPIC data of electors with Aadhar data of UIDAI will remain suspended for now since the Aadhar cards have not yet been issued in the State. Seeking media assistance in carrying out the special drive on authentication of electoral rolls, Das said people must cooperate in tracing out the correct data in the greater interest and effective functioning of democracy. He added to say that voters who suppress the multiple entries within the stipulated time of the NERPAP will be prosecuted as per legal provisions. Also, the Election officer emphasised that the electors with no photos found in the voters list must submit their photos within August 7 as names found without photographs are likely to be deleted from the list. According to Das, there are 10, 95, 917 voters till date in Cachar district including 33, 802 who have been enrolled on January 1, 2015. Of the total voters, there are 6060 Doubtful voters in the district, Das informed.
