Voters� day observed in Silchar, Haflong

SILCHAR, Jan 25 � In sync with the rest of the nation, the National Voters� Day was observed in Cachar district on Sunday.

In a meeting organised by the Cachar district administration at the Zila Parishad conference hall, over 100 newly registered voters were given voter�s badges sent by the Election Commission of India.

Additional Deputy Commissioner AR Sheikh, who presided over the meeting, said that India�s Election Commission has carved a niche for itself in the world system of election. He urged the voters to participate in the democratic process of choosing the representatives to lead and speak for the people of this country.

Earlier, the purpose of the meeting was stated by District Election Officer SK Das. Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Board SN Singh, Executive Director of Dainik Jugasankha Nilotpal Choudhury, Editor of Samayik Prasanga Taimur Raja Choudhury were the invited guests.

Haflong: The Voters� Day was observed here in a befitting manner at the District Library auditorium. The function was organised by the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer.

The theme of the Voters� Day this year is �Easy Registration; Easy Correction�. Election Officer Deepak Jidung anchored the programme where Additional Deputy Commissioner Siim Taro delivered a short speech about the background of the National Voters� Day which was being observed since the year 2011. He also underlined the importance of enrolling oneself in the voters� lists after attaining the eligible voting age of 18 years.
