Voter education programme launched in Dibrugarh district

DIBRUGARH, March 21 - The district election office here has launched its awareness campaign in the entire district to educate the masses on the use of Electronic Voting Machines and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) as also on the importance of casting votes.

The election officials have been assigned to move to different areas to demonstrate and explain the operating procedures of the EVM-VVPATs among the public. One such awareness campaign was organised under the aegis of District Election Office at the district Social Welfare office here for the differently-abled persons. Similar campaigns were also organised at Mahavir Tea Estate, Suraj Tea Estate, Dikhrai Tea Estate and five other places in Borborooah and Tingkhong blocks yesterday, a release stated.

The Systematic Voters� Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Cell of the district election office organised a quiz competition at the district library here among the college students in its effort to create awareness on the importance of casting vote and the use of EVM-VVPAT. More than 30 groups from various colleges of the district took part in the competition.

In the competition, Arpita Singh and Vasudha Raje of MDKG College, Dibrugarh bagged the first position, Suraj Das and Sarbajit Saikia of DDR College, Chabua secured second position and Tulmoni Saikia and Hunmoni Pegu of DHSK College, Dibrugarh were placed third, the release added.
