Voter awareness drive conducted in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, April 9 - The Sivasagar district administration has undertaken an unprecedented voter awareness drive through SVEEP to reach out to 3,72,986 voters of the three Assembly segments, namely, Thowra, Amguri and Sivasagar of 12 Jorhat HPC on the eve of Thursday�s parliamentary election.

Dr S Laksmanan, ARO of Sivasagar has been enthusiastically monitoring the teams carrying out awareness drives in remote rural as well as urban areas to reach out to each and every voter to exercise his franchise in 506 polling stations on the poll day, 15 of which have been identified as model polling stations.

Six of the polling stations will be manned by all-women poll officials.The Deputy Commissioner released a video Ekor Pora Egharo recently at Sukapha Bhawan here to involve school students of 18 HS schools from Class-IX to XII in making at least ten members of his or her neighbourhood to cast their votes.

Streetplays, special songs blaring from mikes, posters, banners and other programmes have also been carried out in every nook and corner of the district to attract voters.

In the district, numerous mock drills were conducted and 55,000 voters were imparted training on the use of EVM and VVPAT machine by sector officers and BLOs of the Election Department.

Further, a �Walk for Vote� was taken out yesterday under the Special Voter Education Programme in Sivasagar where more than 200 people participated. The �Walk for Vote� was flagged off by the voters� icon singer Manas Robin while the Deputy Commissioner along with noted singer Tarali Sarmah also joined the voters� awareness drive by interacting with students at Sibsagar College, ,Joysagar and Sivasagar Commerce College to motivate the young voters.
