Voter awareness drive

MORIGAON, March 15 - With a view to increase voters� turnout in the district and to motivate the voters to exercise their franchise, the district administration of Morigaon has been implementing a host of innovative ideas in the district.

In this context, a voter awareness meeting under SVEEP (Systematic Voters� Education and Electoral Participation) activities was held on Monday at Kalabithika in DC�s Office, Morigaon. The District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar presided over the meeting. The awareness observer designated by the Election Commission of India for Morigaon District, Rajesh Jha, was also present in the meeting.

The District Election Officer apprised the meeting that the district administration had been organising various activities, like cycle rallies, public meeting, Booth Level Officers� meeting, awareness drive, road shows etc., to increase the voters� turnout in all the three LACs of the district.

He said, �Though the voters turnout of the district is quite good (84.5 per cent), yet we all must work united to generate maximum awareness and motivation amongst the voters, specially the youth and women towards casting their votes so that the voters� turnout reaches more than 90 per cent.�

Senior citizens of the district Mileswar Patar, retired teacher and noted researcher of Tiwa folklore Maneswar Deuri, president of Morigaon District journalists� Union Birinchi Sarma, journalist Upen Chandra Deka and Dalim Phukan also spoke on the occasion.
