By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 2 - The Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) and Assam State Blood Transfusion Council (ASBTC) organised a voluntary blood donation camp at the office of the Commissioner of Taxes (Kar Bhavan), Ganeshguri here on Saturday, said a press release.

The camp was inaugurated by Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika. Talking to reporters after inaugurating the camp, the minister said because of the COVID-19 lockdown imposed in the entire country, there has been a decline in voluntary blood donation in the State. The Assam State Blood Transfusion Council has taken the initiative to accelerate voluntary blood donation, he said.

Minister Hazarika applauded Anurag Goel, Director of ASBTC & Commissioner of Taxes for taking the initiative and also the officials and staff of the Commissionerate of Taxes for coming forward to donate blood which, he asserted, would be of great help for needy patients in the hospitals.

The minister further said that such drives would continue throughout the State as five mobile blood collection vans have already been placed at district hospitals across the State and another five would soon be placed in various districts.

Altogether 55 donors were screened at the camp and out of them 35 donors donated blood in the blood mobile bus stationed near the office.
