Vishnu Vardhan bags ATT crown

GUWAHATI, Nov 18 - Former Olympic and Asian Games player Vishnu Vardhan clinched the Asian Tennis Tour (ATT) Men�s Singles title with a convincing 6-3, 6-4 straight set victory against Suraj Prabodh.

In a power-packed summit clash at the All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) complex in Chachal here today, Vishnu, ITF ranked 412, used his experience and power to outshine a fighting Suraj.

Top seed Vishnu displayed better game and caught Suraj in the wrong foot on several occasions. His volleys and base-line play were so accurate and fast that Suraj could not go for too many counter attacks.

After losing the first set 3-6, Suraj tried to make a comeback in the second set but Vishnu could not be forced to make much errors and finally the current India number 5 snatched the second set 6-4 to clinch the match. Vishnu pocketed USD 1325 while Suraj had to be content with USD 1075.

In the well attended prize distribution ceremony, treasurer of the All India Tennis Association Raktim Saikia handed over the prizes to the players.
