Virus-positive cases reach 272 in Manipur

IMPHAL, June 8 - With 100 new cases, the total number of persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur has increased to 272, while the number of active cases is 214, state health officials said today.

�Last night, 37 persons was confirmed as COVID-19 positive cases at VRDLs (Virus Research and Diagnosis Laboratory) of RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences) and JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences),�said Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director and spokesperson of the Health Department in a press release today.

Later, another press release circulated at around 8 pm said 63 persons were confirmed as COVID-19 positive cases at the VRDLs of RIMS (24) and JNIMS (39). All of them are returnees from other states, it said.

The authorities of the concerned districts have taken up all necessary precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing, it stated.

Meanwhile, 6 male COVID-19 patients were discharged from RIMS after they were found negative on RT PCR test.The total number of recovered cases is 58. Thus, as of now, the total number of positive cases has increased to 272 and the number of active cases to 214.The positivity rate is 1.52 percent.

Detained: As part of the ongoing drive to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Manipur Police detained 441 persons along with 467 vehicles for violating the ongoing lockdown/curfew, said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) L Kailun in a press release today.

They were produced before magistrates and fine amounting to Rs 71,300 was imposed on them. Police appealed to the public to follow the guidelines issued by the Government.

Meanwhile, two teams of Thoubal Commandos led by Additional SP(Ops) Sachidananda Soibam of Thoubal district assisted by Inspector N Sadananda Singh, who is officer incharge of Thoubal Commandos under the supervision of district SP Dr S Ibomcha Singh of Thoubal arrested one Graceson Tangkhul(41) of Ashang Khullen, Kamjong along with 2.5 kgs of opium from Komlaching at around 2.50 pm today, a police source said.

The arrested person along with the seized articles was handed over to Nongpok Sekmai Police Station for necessary action.
