IMPHAL, Nov 13 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that surveillance teams will be sent to those Assembly constituencies where by-elections were conducted recently, to identify persons showing symptoms of COVID-19.
The step is being taken to stop the possible spread of COVID-19 in the five constituencies where the bypolls were held Wangoi in Imphal West district, Lilong and Wangjing-Tentha in Thoubal district, Saitu in Kangpokpi district and Singhat in Churachandpur district.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Biren Singh also appealed to the public to strictly comply with the Standard Operating Procedures issued by the Union and State governments to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The Chief Minister said that the COVID-19 transmission rate in the State is not very alarming, and that the credit for this goes to the frontline workers, including the police, civil society organisations and volunteers. But the situation still does not warrant lowering of guard, he cautioned.
Biren Singh asked the local COVID-19 committees to play proactive roles in combating the pandemic, and urged the MLAs to assist these committees. He said that there is a COVID-19 death audit committee to oversee the situation.
Adviser (Health) to the Chief Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan and Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) V Vumlunmang were also present during the media briefing.
