Virus cases decline in Mizoram

AIZAWL, Dec 4 - Mizoram has witnessed a considerable decline in fresh cases of COVID-19 during the last seven days. The State has detected 125 fresh cases since Thursday last week, including seven during the last 24 hours.

The seven new cases, which took the State�s current virus tally to 3,888 on Friday, include two children, an official release stated.

Four of the new cases have been reported from Lawngtlai district, two from Champhai and one from Lunglei, it added. While three new cases were confirmed in the TrueNat laboratories of the district hospitals, four were detected through rapid antigen tests.

All the 349 samples tested through RT-PCR at the Zoram Medical College, Aizawl, in the last 24 hours have come negative. This is the first time in the last few months that the State�s main COVID-19 testing laboratory reported no new cases, officials said.

With six deaths so far, Mizoram has the lowest COVID-19 fatality rate in the country.

Meanwhile, with the release of 63 people from various COVID care centres on Thursday, the total number of recovered patients in Mizoram now stands at 3,647. The recovery rate of the State currently stands at 93.81 per cent. Of the total 3,888 cases, 235 are active.
