Violence over boy�s killing in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, Dec 8 � The death of a 13-year-old boy at the hands of the Cobra commandoes of the CRPF at the Malasi Namkhi Gaur village in the northern fringe of the Karbi Anglong district this morning led to violence at the Dolamara police station, resulting in injuries to, among others, Anurag Agarwal, Superintendent of Police, Karbi Anglong.

The CRPF commandoes shot the boy Rakhal Gaur mistaking him to be a Karbi militant emerging from the Dolamara Forest.

As the information spread like wildfire, a huge crowd gathered in front of the Dolamara police station, demanding immediate arrest of the person responsible for Rakhal�s death and adequate compensation for the victim�s kin.

The mob turned violent even as the SP, Agarwal came to quell the agitated crowd. Some among the crowd pelted stones at the police personnel, injuring some of them severely. The police station was also vandalized.

Two security personnel of the police station and two journalists were also injured in the violence.

Meanwhile, the district administration has announced an exgratia of Rs 3 lakh to kin of the victim.
