HAFLONG, March 26 - In view of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the people of Hangrum village in Dima Hasao have set up a makeshift quarantine hut to accommodate people who may get infected. The hut made of banana leaves and bamboos is aimed at accommodating around 20 people.
The villagers took the initiative to check spread of novel coronavirus in the locality. �As we do not have other options, the gaonburha told the villagers to set up a makeshift arrangement to keep people,� a group of villagers told this correspondent on Thursday.
Hungrum, located along the Assam-Nagaland border, is yet to be fully developed in terms of communication.
Meanwhile, a new quarantine facility with 40 beds has been set up at Siksha Bhavan in Haflong. It was learnt that around 240 persons coming from different parts of the country are now undergoing self-quarantine process as a part of safety
measures.
One suspected youth has been isolated and his blood sample has been sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for conducting COVID-19 test. According to a report, 2,186 people have undergone medical screening.
As a part of preventive measures, the Health department of Dima Hasao sprayed disinfectants in the main markets on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa appealed to the people to remain indoors for the sake of safety. �We are taking precautionary measures in various parts of the district to prevent spread of the novel coronavirus,� he said. Around 50 surveillance teams have been constituted to create awareness among the people.
