Vijay Hazare Trophy team named

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 � The Assam Cricket Association today named the State team for East Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy limited over cricket tournament. ACA secretary Bikash Baruah informed that the 15-member team has been selected for the first two matches against Tripura and Orissa. The championship will be played at Agartala from February 10. Off spinner Arlen Konwar has been appointed as captain of the team.

The team: Arlen Konwar (capt), Kunal Saikia (vice capt), Parvez Aziz, Amit Sinha, Tarjinder Singh, Gokul Sharma, Pallav Das, Sib Sankar Roy, Abu Naschim Ahmed, Chandan Rawat, Sujay Tarafdar, Utpal Medhi, Ranjit Mali, Manash Jyoti Gogoi, Pritam Das. � Sports Reporter

Nabajyoti emerge champs

GUWAHATI, Jan 31: Nabajyoti Club lifted the Jugal Kishore Newatia Trophy emerging champion in Bud Challenge Trophy Cricket Tournament. In the final played at Nehru Stadium here today, Nabajyoti Club recorded a seven-wicket victory against host Bud Cricket Club. Put into bat, Bud managed to gather a challenging total of 202 losing all the wickets in 39.4 overs. Kankan Das top scored with 76 while Bhaskar Kalita added 41. Simanta Neogi and Biki Bharali were the other notable contributors with 30 and 25 respectively.

Nabajyoti hardly faced any difficulty as from the initial stage they were in control and reached the target in 33.1 overs. Man-of-the-match Parag Das cracked a 38-ball 52 while Arminder Singh and Nishanta Bordoloi gathered 50 and 44 respectively. Parag also received the man-of-the-series award. Kankan Das, Bhaskar Kalita, both Bud CC were adjudged best batsman and best bowler respectively.
